Advanced materials from algae
Our algae materials replace harmful and less efficient chemicals in high-end organic personal care products and has the potential of increasing the efficiency of solar panels.
Research and development for a better future
Swedish Algae Factory is the only company in the world that cultivates the algae group diatoms and extracts its high-tech silica shells for use in different applications. We call this shell material Algica. We constantly work to improve production and extraction, and to optimize performance in targeted applications. We continuously learn more about the properties of Algica which opens up for new exciting applications.
In harmony with nature, in real-time
We strive towards cultivating our algae based on a 100 % circular mindset where carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and phosphorus emissions can be converted into valuable products. In the production of 1 kg of Algica at least 8 kg of CO2, 1 kg of nitrogen and 0,1 kg of phosphorous can be trapped.
Where is Algica produced?
Today we grow our algae in a large greenhouse on the Swedish west coast. In an adjacent facility we extract our unique algae materials. Our new algae factory is a modern high-tech facility that enables a sustainable and circular production.
Life Sunalgae
Swedish Algae Factory have received the highly selective EU LIFE grant. The project LIFE SUNALGAE is the first of its kind to extract and utilize diatom shells at large scale for solar panel efficiency enhancing applications.
