From the Swedish west coast to the world
The production facility includes a cultivation area in a green house built of cultivation modules consisting of shallow lanes stacked onto each other to create over 10 000 square meters of cultivation.
The cultivation modules are designed for optimal growth of the diatoms that produce Algica®. A self-propelled harvester is a part of the system and continuously harvests the algae biofilm. Once harvested, the unique shell material from the algae is extracted in a processing area. The high level of automation in the facility enables efficient and controlled cultivation and processing with high accuracy.
EU-funded investment support for Swedish Algae Factory
Swedish Algae Factory has received investment support in 2024 from the Swedish Board of Agriculture through the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund 2021–2027. The support is granted for the project "Rinsing, dewatering and drying of microalgae", which runs initially until 2026.
The aim of the project is to strengthen our production capacity and enable a more efficient and sustainable processing of frustules.
